Within Greenwich Village you are not going to find too many hotels to choose from. Hotels are a bit more of a premium around the area, but there are still some very solid options out there.
Depending on what type of experience you are looking for, here is a quick summary of the hotels and what category they best fit in:

2) Why Greenwich Village
When it come to choosing a place to stay in NYC, there are so many different neighborhoods to choose from.
There are uptown options, downtown options, midtown options, and even hotels near NYC in New Jersey to choose from.
However, one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city has to Greenwich Village.
As a local New Yorker, I spend plenty of time in all corners of NYC. When it comes to an area like Greenwich Village, there are few other neighborhoods that can compete.
Greenwich Village makes up the area south of 14th Street and north of Houston Street, between the West Side Highway and Broadway.
Within the larger Greenwich Village, you also have smaller neighborhoods such as the West Village and the Meatpacking District.
All throughout the Greenwich Village area you will find top NYC restaurants, a bustling nightlife scene, and some of the most walkable streets of the city.
You will also be close by to places like Washington Square Park, Hudson River Park, Little Island, the Whitney Museum, among many other top spots.
And if you are looking to venture further out of the neighborhood to places like Central Park or Top of the Rock, you will have easy access to plenty of subway lines.
I find Greenwich Village the perfect spot for those that want to enjoy a more authentic New York City experience, away from the bright lights and high-rises of Midtown Manhattan.

3) Walker Hotel
The Walker Hotel sits on one of Greenwich Village’s most picturesque streets, West 13th Street. It’s very close to the trendy district of Chelsea, and is within walking distance of Washington Square.
The Walker prides itself on a sense of cozy intimacy. The sunken lobby is set back from the street and features tin ceilings and a gas fireplace.
The rooms themselves are comfortable and minimalistic, with TVs that disappear behind custom panels. Rooms on higher floors have great views of Greenwich Village, and some have private terraces.
The onsite Society Café is a foodie’s dream, with ingredients sourced from the local farmer’s market put to inventive use.
The Walker is a great boutique option that sits somewhere between budget and luxury. It is highly recommended for those wishing to stay in Greenwich Village.
4) The Standard, High Line
The Standard, High Line is found in the heart of the hip Meatpacking District. It overlooks the titular High Line, NYC’s famous elevated park.
As with many hotels in the area, it’s very close to the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Standard also offers spectacular views of the Hudson River to the west, and it’s less than ten minutes to the nearest subway stop.

The Standard is a landmark in of itself. It’s an imposing, blocky building that rises high above the High Line, and its cool and striking esthetic is one of the many reasons to stay here.
The foliage at the entrance to the Standard makes it blend in seamlessly with the park. Inside, you’ll find the tongue-in-cheek ‘No Pool’ – a terrace decked out like a swimming pool, but without the pool.
Rooms are stylish and prioritize comfort. Most have large rain showers and huge square bath tubs, and the floor-to-ceiling windows found in many make the most of those Hudson River views.
All rooms come with luxurious Davine toiletries, and trendy black bathrobes that will keep you warm after you slip out of the tub.
The Standard, High Line is definitely a location that emphasizes the rule of cool over everything else. It’s worth it for the views and the proximity to the park, if nothing else.
5) Gansevoort
The Gansevoort is another hotel found in the heart of the Village’s Meatpacking District.
It’s the perfect base of operations for exploring this fashionable and upmarket neighborhood, with innumerable restaurants and boutiques right on your doorstep.
The rooms in the Gansevoort are expansive and relaxing. Enjoy a refreshing and comfortable night’s sleep in Egyptian cotton bedding and plush mattresses, or enjoy TV on the 42” flatscreens. Many rooms also feature private balconies where guests can take in the sights and sounds of the Meatpacking District.
The Meatpacking District is one of New York’s most fashionable and avant-garde. In addition to its plethora of restaurants and cafés, there is no small number of art galleries and museums.
Guests at the Gansevoort could never leave the Meatpacking District and find plenty to occupy themselves.
The Gansevoort sports an open-air swimming pool that’s heated year round. Only open to guests, the pool offers amazing panoramic views of Manhattan.
The adjacent rooftop bar and lounge is the perfect place to hang out with a beer or cocktail in hand, enjoying the glistening skyline.
The Gansevoort is, without a doubt, one of the most luxurious hotels in Greenwich Village. If your budget stretches to it, it should definitely be considered.
6) Marlton Hotel
The Marlton Hotel is easily one of the best NYC hotels in Greenwich Village. The hip boutique hotel once called author Jack Kerouac a guest, and it’s not hard to see why.
As with many of the best hotels in Greenwich Village, the Marlton makes you feel like a local instead of a guest.
The guestrooms are not overly large, but what they lack in size they make up for with character. The blankets are thick and comfortable synthetic fur, and the décor is extravagant yet tasteful.
You can also enjoy a soak in vintage marble bathtubs – a throwback to the hotel’s roots as a single-room occupancy.
The fantastic bars and restaurants in the locality cement this as one of the best hotels in Greenwich Village.
There are several cafés on the same block as the Marlton, and some of the best restaurants in the city are within walking distance. For access to the rest of the city, the West 4th subway stop is less than ten minutes’ walk away.
For a slice of old-school bohemia in the heart of Greenwich Village, you can’t beat the Marlton.
7) Washington Square Hotel
Following in the footsteps of other renowned Greenwich Village hotels, the Washington Square Hotel was once a haven for artists and writers.
The Washington Square was actually home to Bob Dylan for a while, who stayed here while playing local clubs. Other famous guests include the Mamas and the Papas, Joan Baez, and Barbara Streisand.
The hotel’s biggest draw is its location on the eponymous Washington Square.
This makes it a great place for those to want to experience NYC life as if they were locals. This doesn’t stop the hotel from being around the corner from some world-class restaurants, however.
The Washington Square Hotel is, despite its location and pedigree, rather simple and small.
Some amenities you might take for granted, like room and laundry service, are not offered in the family-run establishment. It makes up for this with a delicious (and free) continental breakfast and a bistro & lounge onsite.
8) Incentra Village Hotel
Another cozy guesthouse-style establishment and one of the best hotels in Greenwich Village, the Incentra oozes charm and intimacy. Built in the mid-nineteenth century, the Incentra sprawls across not one but two brick buildings.
The Incentra keeps things small with a mere 12 rooms. Each room feels like a home away from home, with crackling fireplaces and small kitchenettes. Though a little on the small side, each room is clean, quiet, and contains all the basic amenities you’ll need to make your stay a comfortable one.
The bars and restaurants around the Incentra are perfect for those who wish to sample the Village’s nightlife. With pizzerias, cocktail bars and a cheerfully quaint tavern opposite the hotel, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Many hotels in Greenwich Village can boast on offering guests the “NYC local” experience, but few commit to it as fully as the Incentra Village Hotel. It is highly recommended for those who really want to sink their teeth into the New Yorker lifestyle.
