The Jungfrau Region is home to many different towns to base oneself in during a visit. Places like Murren, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Interlaken are all highly recommended places to stay.

While each has its pros and cons, Wengen has a little bit of everything you will want when it comes to the Jungfrau.

Below are just some of the top things to do in Wengen and a few reasons why to stay there:

Mountainside

Unlike places like Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, or Interlaken, Wengen is perched up on the mountainside. That means the views will be that much more outstanding.

The mountains surround Wengen, and a walk through town will have those constant stunning landscapes all around.

Down below is also the Lauterbrunnen Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. Getting the chance to have this type of scenery outside your doorstep is tough to beat.

Car Free

Similarly to Murren, the town of Wengen is car free. For some, that may be a downside, but for most I would consider that an upside.

You won’t find traffic or honking cars in Wengen. Instead it will be quiet and peaceful walking paths all throughout town and the surrounding areas.

If you are planning on driving to Wengen, you will need to park your car in either Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken and take a train from there.

Location

The location of Wengen is also a highlight as it is situated right in the middle of the Jungfrau Region. On one side will be the Lauterbrunnen Valley and Murren, and on the other side is Grindelwald.

So, whether you just want to explore the area around Wengen, or take some time to head out of town, you should not have a problem getting somewhere.

Hiking

if you are visiting the Jungfrau, odds are you will want to do some hiking around the area. Wengen does not disappoint when it comes to Switzerland hiking options either.

Just in town, is the gondola up to Mannlichen. From there you will find several hiking options to choose from including the Royal Walk and Panorama Trail.
